Special Treatment for Scar Tissue
|
Introduction
Much of the time conventional cancer treatment results in considerable
scarring of the body's tissues. Scar tissue is not always on the surface. In
fact, in most cases the scar tissue under the skin is a larger problem than
the visible scar. This page is designed to educate patients on the danger
of scar tissue and what can be done to avoid future problems.
What is Scar Tissue?
Scar tissue is hardened fascia (or connective tissue). Connective tissue
is the most common tissue in the body. It is the white substance that
surrounds all of our muscles and organs. There is also a layer under the
skin. Connective tissue is primarily responsible for holding everything
together. It is often compared to the guy wires that hold tall towers and
light poles in position. It is a three-dimensional web of tissue that is
prevalent throughout the body. It surrounds blood and lymphatic vessels
and provides a path for the energy channels to flow.
When there is damaged tissue present in the body, such as that caused by surgery or radiation, the
connective tissue loses its water and becomes sticky in order to hold the wounded area stable while healing
takes place. If the healing process takes too long, usually 4-6 weeks or more, the connective tissue remains
in a dehydrated state resulting in what is described as permanent scar tissue.
Scar tissue in the system may result in pain or limited range of motion. The three most common problems,
in my experience, has been abdominal surgery, breast surgery/reconstruction, and radiation treatments.
This three items almost always result in large amounts of scar tissue that needs attention. If radiation
therapy is treated with a medical qigong technique for eliminating the damaging side effects of radiation
therapy, scar tissue usually does not form and is not a problem.
Is there a fix for these problems?
The answer is YES! There is a fix for scar tissue problems, but it seldom comes from conventional medicine.
There are numerous salves and ointments on the market claiming to fix scars, but they only work on the
surface, and do nothing to alleviate the pain and discomfort caused by internal scars. The medical
procedures available consist mostly of reopening the surgical area and cutting the scar tissue loose to
alleviate the pain. This is almost always a temporary fix, because new scar tissue forms from the surgery
required to enter the body to cut the connective tissue loose. There is no truly effective surgical procedure
to repair scar tissue formed as a result of radiation.
There is, however, an energy based technique from Medical Qigong that usually eliminates scar tissue
completely. It is non-invasive and seldom causes more than a strong feeling of warmth in the area being
treated. It works equally well on surface scars and subcutaneous scars. Sometimes my patients would
rather I worked on the scars for them, but often I teach them how to do the technique and they treat
themselves. It takes less than twenty minutes to learn the technique.
For surgical scars, usually one to three sessions is all that is needed for the work. For extensive scarring
from operations like breast reconstruction where scar tissue forms all around the "capsule" where the
implant is inserted, or for radiation scarring the road to freedom may require extensive work.
Although the technique is simple to learn, it takes tremendous will power to stay at it long periods of time.
And some special knowledge is necessary to ensure you don't deplete your own energy system when you
practice the technique. The procedure is well within the operational guidelines of massage therapy and
does not require a medical procedure. It is safe and effective. If you have specific questions contact me
